Killer is Dead - HD Fix
by Tore Andersen
Killer is Dead is a surrealistic action adventure, released
in 2013/2014 by Grasshopper Manufacture. The game has a very unique graphical style,
but for whatever reason, the game is set to run in low resolution only.
This makes absolutely no sense, as the game engine fully support any HD
resolution. Why the developers purposely want their game to only run in low resolution, is
quite the mystery. However, this major error is actually very easily fixed.
1: Open the Killer is Dead game folder, and go to sub
2: Open the file "KidEngine.ini" with a notepad, and find the following two lines:
3: Change the values to whatever resolution match your monitor. *See picture (Changed to regular HD resolution)
*Note: For 4k resolution, change to ResX=3840 and ResY=2160
4: Save and close the file.
That's it. Killer is Dead now runs in any resolution, including full HD. ...As it should.

Killer is Dead is a unique story about love and violence, set
in a surreal high-tech near future. The main character is an assassin named
Mondo Zappa. He get jobs from the "Execution Firm", run by a cyborg named Bryan.
Mondo is taking out criminals around the world and in space, and meets a lot of
people and get into weird situations on his journeys. His weapon is a sword and
a cybernetic left arm, which can be used to mount different types of guns and
objects. Love is a big part of the game, and moral choices of how far Mondo will
go to protect someone. The game starts by following a former executioner named
Tokio, who has kidnapped a girl. Tokio mentions "the darkness" right before he
is taken out. Two years later, Mondo is accepted into the cyborg's execution
agency, taking the place of Tokio. Another assassin leaves the company, and
warns the player about the danger of falling to the darkness.. Whatever that
The story unfolds with a variety of characters and places. All presented in a very atmospheric and visually unique style. (In low resolution, until you apply this fix) After changing to a higher resolution, the graphics are fantastic in it's own way, and adds to a great gaming experience.
Planning for "Killer Is Dead" started already in 2009, but real development didn't start before 2011. The title, which doesn't have any obvious meaning, is actually inspired by a song from The Smiths's "The Queen is Dead". It wasn't meant to be the final title, but the developers got use to it. It was announced in 2012, with a label of "A Dark Side 007 Game". The game was released in the summer of 2013, published by "Kadokawa Games" in Japan, "Marvelous USA" in North America, "Deep Silver" in Europe, and "Sony Computer Entertainment Asia" in Asian (Outside Japan). The PC version was released in 2014 with a new title "Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition".
